This is the progress I have made on my first sock since yesterday. Only 1 more inch and then I am done with the cuff. I don't remember if I said this already, but the pattern came from the wrapper of the yarn. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me. I just hope I have the ooomph to do the second sock. That is my biggest fear. Well, that and the dark.

This is the yarn i got for my sock workshop today. It is self striping with BIG stripes. Bigger than the ones on the other socks I am making. I think the colors are very nice for Fall. This picture doesn't show it, but the colors include red, brown, orange, and black. I can't wait for later!

The beginning of the sock era. My first pair of socks in on the needles. I wanted to start a pair so that I would know what questions to ask at the SnB sock workshop tomorrow. The yarn? Lion Brand. At least it's wool and not acrylic. The needles? Joann is having a 40% off sale. Oh yes.

Who's that hottie wearing cashmere mittens?

Max is modeling my first pair of mittens.

I got this today at the asian market. It is filled with little cups of jello type stuff. The flavors are apple, peach, strawberry, grape, and mango. It's also a piggy bank. I couldn't help myself.

My sister painted ALL of these awesome pictures!

This is a picture my sister painted! She is so artistic!! (She's 6)
My blog went crazy today
Well my blog went a little crazy today. I don't know what happened but everything got too big. I am not really sure who reads this anyway, but still, I don't want to upset you... I guess if you are the one who's link is huge, you will be very happy.
Never mind that- I just changed my template...
Anyway, I cast on and started a meema bag last night at SnB but then I decided to double strand it instead so i took it out.
SnB was so much fun this week. Can't wait for Sunday's Sock Workshop!
Next Stop, Tank Top
I finished the mittens for mama! I'll post those pics later (I'm at school right now). Now I need to work on R2 Sweet and Knitty Cleo. I'll post update pics for that stuff later. Just a quickie post for now.
Meema's done, Mittens are not.
Just an update... I finished my Meema Marsupial and it's ready for the washing machine water torture. My current project is the Mama Cashmere mittens. I can't wait to finish those already, just to say that i finished. That's all for now.
Hanukkah Meema!
I haven't been posting often enough, but I have been knitting. And here's proof:
It's Meema's Marsupial bag from Stitch n Bitch (I don't have to put a link for THAT do I?)
It is a Hanukkah present for a friend. I don't want to say which one in case she reads it.
I kind of changed the pattern though:
- I used size 11 circs instead of 13s.
- For the base, I cast on as though I was making a booga: 34 stitches and 34 rows.
- For the BO of the handles, I didn't BO ALL the stitches between the markers. There were 34 stitches and I only BO 24 stitches. (I did this because I didn't want floppy handles)
- I didn't change colors for the top part. I considered it though.
- I used Plymouth Outback Virgin Wool in "Kaleidoscope" and I didn't double it up.
That's all. This bag is VERY fun to make and I can't wait to finish and felt it. I was worried that it would come out weird because of all the changes, but it didn't. It is coming out fine.
One last thing- One skein of the Outback Wool is enough for the whole bag. I haven't changed skeins yet, and as you can see from the picture, it's plenty. I am happy.
I really shouldn't buy yarn to compensate for my sad feelings.
I really shouldn't. But I did.
First, I would just like to say how sad I am today on Sept. 11th 2004. I cannot believe that 3 years have passed. I wish I could be in NY right now to console the families of the victims. Mr. Kanter, you are in my heart.
So now that I got a little depressed, I will show all of the things I bought today. I figured that shopping would make me feel less ancy, and it worked. It never worked before, but I think retail therapy is KEY.
First I went to LYS,
Fiber Factory. They really do have a great selection. I used to be scared away by the prices, but I don't think that the prices online are that much better. That's just my opinion. I know a lot of people have great experiences with yarn online, but I think that it's not worth the waiting and the shipping costs. And it's harder to make thoughtless purchases online, like I did today in the store. Just a little rant. I'll step down now.
So I got some amazing Noro Daria to make a water bottle cozy. Oh yeah. I also got Interweave Knits from Summer 2002 to make those cute dollies everyone's making. I also got a "Katcha-Katcha." That's the clickety thing that counts the number of rows. I love that it's actually called Katcha Katcha.

You can click on the picture for a closer look.
Then I went to Walmart for some Toga action. I am going to a toga party on Friday and I needed some cloth for me and Max. I am not going to post the picture, because it's pretty standard. A few yardsof white cloth and some red lace for my sash (not sTash). I also got some white undershirts and boxers for me to wear underneath.
But then I couldn't JUST get that. Because I saw this:

You read it right. $1 sale. I don't even like cotton OR acrylic, let alone a blend of them. But I really couldn't resist. They looked so cute in the sale bin all together. I am such a sucker. I am going to make another SnB Chinese Charm purse, except this time I will actually finish it the right way and make it even. If you don't know what I am referring to,
click here. My first chinese charm bag is awful ugly. This one will HOPEFULLY be cute and rainbow and with any luck, a little less ugly.
But, tada, I bring you my most FAVORITE purchase of the WHOLE day. And I really did buy a lot today. It is my favorite because I didn't even know it existed. Here it is:

I think I love them so much because I never knew they existed. Neon, size 50, Red Heart Knitting Needles. There is a whole line of them. They come in different colors and there are sizes 13, 15, 17, 19, and 50. And maybe more. I wanted all of them, but I couldn't bring myself to do it because I already have the other sizes. This was the only one I don't have. My boyfriend makes fun of me and says they double as knitting needles. It's a dirty joke, if you know what I mean.
I just want to end off with this:
I spent $5 on 500 grams of the Cotton Twist. I spent $24 on 100 grams of the Noro Daria. Something is wrong here. Obviously Noro is WAY better than Red Heart will EVER be, but still. I always feel a little ripped off.
I don't even remember how I stumbled on this one, but
this company sends BASKETS of yarn with all of the yarn, needles, and accessories that you need to make a PONCHO! Check it out:
And this is one of the ponchos you can make with it:
(I didn't make this)
I love stuff like this. Just thought I would pass it on.
Well I changed my template and there is a good reason for this. I went to my blog at work and I COULDN'T SEE A THING! I never realized that some people's computers cannot see Grey on Black background. How silly of me. Maybe now I will have 70 comments a day since people can finally read the thing!
Anyway, I have been knitting so here are some updates.
FUZZY FEET FELTED AND FINISHED!
(I can't believe it)
I finally felted the fuzzy feet and they are so cool and wonderful. They are for Grandma Lee but now I want a pair too. So easy to make. Here they are in my laundry room:
It took 3 washes with 2 pairs of jeans and a booga bag from hell to get them felted to the size i wanted. More on the booga later.
Here are Fuzzy Feet on ME! (They are not for me, so they are a little big on me)
BOOGA BAG FROM HELL:
Don't get me wrong. The
pattern is AWESOME. The pattern's author,
Julie, is awesome. My Booga Bag that doesn't want to felt no matter how many times I wash it... Not so awesome.
I don't know what I have to do to this thing, but it isn't felting. I put it through the wash
9 times already! I don't think I am doing it WRONG because fuzzy feet worked and
my felted green bag worked.
I even e-mailed Julie and she was so sweet and she gave me some tips but I think my bad booga luck is even stronger than her skills.
I would post a pic to show it and complain some more, but I am so angry that I don't even want to capture the bag on my camera.
MAMMA MITTENS UPDATE:
This mitten pattern was the first pattern I ever payed for, except for the
SnB book. The pattern is from Ann Norling and it is awesome. It actually has 3 seperate patterns in it for 3 different weights of yarn. AND within each of those patterns, there are 4 size breakdowns. It's great. I wish I could scan it and show it to you, but the
FBI might stop by if I do.
The yarn I used comes from School Products in NY. It is
cashmere and it is WONDERFUL. I love working with it. I don't want to finish the mitten because if I do, I can't work with cashmere anymore.
Here is what I am up to:
It's hard to tell the colors on my moniter, but the colors are a repeating blend of purple, gold, and green.
Mardi Gras colors, if you will.
Coming up next time:
I am planning on using some of the
Outback Wool to make "
Alex's Felted Trapezoid Purse" (it's an adobe file, but it's worth it).
On the same note, I want to make the marsupial bag from
SnB.
That's all for now.
Not that I had anything to do with that, but I am excited anyway! There is a
GREAT poncho in
magknits that I must make. At our stitch n bitch, one of the girls was making something like it, except without the design, and she was getting a little bored. I think this is perfect to ease the boredom. By the way, thanks
Kerrie for putting it on your blog so that I can find out!
Where did I go?
So believe it or not, I have been knitting. I just haven't been posting...
First of all, I finished the front and back of
Sweet and now I am working on the hood (hence the squares)
I also made a whole pair of
Fuzzy Feet without saying anything! It was my little secret. I just finished today and now I need to felt them. The yarn is the one I posted about earlier- Outback virgin wool by Plymouth from
Elann. By the way, any ideas what the difference between virgin wool and regular wool is?
Thanks
Nicole for the
courage to attempt these. They were SO fun and not hard at all. I'll make sure to show pics when I felt them, before I send them out to Grandma Lee.
Tomorrow I will finish my mittens for mom and felt the fuzzy feet. And hopefully post.
